AGE GROUPS

In conjunction with the US Soccer Federation mandate to move to birth year age groups, both the WYSL and NYCSL have decided to implement this new format beginning in the Fall 2016.  As a result, SYSC has no choice but to follow this format change and construct teams by calendar year age groups.  If your son/daughter is impacted by this transition, please recognize that this is a change affecting all travel soccer clubs in the US and will impact between 15-20% of SYSC players.

 

The WYSL configurations for the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 are as follows:

• 9&U: Players Born Jan 1, 2016 or later

• 10&U: Players Born Jan 1, 2015 or later

• 11&U: Players Born Jan 1, 2014 or later

• 12&U: Players Born Jan 1, 2013 or later

• 13&U: Players Born Jan 1, 2012 or later

• 14&U: Players Born Jan 1, 2011 or later

 

Age Group Policies: Playing Up

 

For our stratified age groups, U9 and older, stronger players, with guidance from our coaching provider, may tryout for an older age group.  Players, whose skill level places them on the top team, will be allowed to play up.  Players, whose skill level is not commensurate with the top team, will be placed on a team based on their age.  In order to play up, players must get approval from the Directors of Coaching who will then coordinate with the tryout coordinators and club registrar.  See more detail under tryouts and registration.
